Win Share Age by Team
November 02, 2003
I did something that Bill James also did in Win Shares: I computed the average Win Share age of each team by multiplying each player’s age by his Win Shares, adding them up per team, then dividing by total team Win Shares. Results are attached.
Here’s the American League:
Team Age
SEA 32.1
NYY 31.9
BOS 30.8
CWS 29.8
BAL 29.7
ANA 29.5
KC 29.2
TEX 29.1
MIN 28.7
TOR 28.6
OAK 27.9
DET 27.5
CLE 27.4
TB 26.8
And here’s the National League:
Team Age
SF 32.5
LA 31.0
ATL 30.8
NYM 30.6
HOU 30.4
ARI 30.3
CHC 30.2
COL 30.0
PIT 29.9
STL 29.8
MIL 29.5
PHI 29.3
SD 29.1
CIN 28.1
MON 27.6
FLA 27.4
By this calculation, the World Champs were the second-youngest team in the majors.
