Alright, I need to ask ... how much of the variation is due to different baselines? Your baseline is much higher than mine or Bill’s, so if you lob off about 5% from yours (or add it to ours, which the more I think about it, is probably more correct) ... anyhow, I subtracted 5% and found the following teams having an SD of higher than 3% between the 3: Cincinnati, Detroit, KC, SD, Seattle, Saint Louis, TB and Texas. In the case of Cincy, you’re the outlier of 68-70-81. In the case of Detroit, it’s evenly spaced at 60-63-69, for KC it’s 68-62-67 (I’m the outlier), SD 63-51-61 (I’m the outlier), SF 68-62-59 (Bill’s the outlier), Seattle 66-62-57 (even), StL 64-57-53 (Bill is way high), TB 61-52-54 (Bill), Texas 66-58-63 (me).

Here are the three systems compared on a team-specific basis
Here is a table of the three pitching/fielding split systems, expressed as a percent of defensive Win Shares allocated to pitching. The original James system is listed first, Charlie’s system is second and mine is third.
I’ve highlighted the teams that appear to vary the most, and I plan to look more closely at some of them soon.

Charlie, I inserted your different strikeout weights for the National League, and you’re right, it really changed things. In fact, your system now rates pitching the highest, at 73.5%, vs. my weight of 72.3%. I assume I would get the same results for the American League.
Maybe we’re coming to an agreement that the weight ought to be a bit higher toward pitching, but we also need to find the confidence to widen the spread between teams.
